Author's Note: This poem is about the book The Secret Life of Bees. In this book there is a girl who pictures bees being this perfect, loving family in their hives and this poem expresses that.
Bees...
Small insects of wonder,
Studied through the eyes of one's heart.
Learned with the mind of one's soul.
Loved by the heart of one's spirit.
Bees;
One heart, one beat, one pulse...
The anatomy of a family.
This is a short, but good poem. Can you speak to what you were trying to do as far as a piece of poetry is concerned? What poetic elements were you employing? Why open form? What sort of semantic devices did you try to use? These are the sort of questions we need to be able to speak to when we turn our hand to poetry, just as we can speak about the different components of an essay when we write in that format.
ReplyDeleteI love the poem, and think you have serious talent in this area. You should consider reading some serious works, and finding an author whom you can imitate to affect your style positively.
Thank you Mr. Johnson for asking me these questions, because truthfully, I don't know the answer to them. I am going to go check into some poetry books and look into reviewing some areas of poetry and things. Thanks for your suggestions and I am going to take them to heart.

ReplyDeleteThis poem is very short, but you definitely did a good job getting your point across. I like how it ended, and the author's note gave me some help about figuring out what the point of this was. Great job
ReplyDeleteI love the last few lines. They really had a strong voice in them and they were intense in a way. I really liked it! Good Job!
ReplyDeleteThis was a short but amazing poem. I truly think the best line about it would be the second to last one and the last one completely followed suit perfectly.
ReplyDeleteThis was a very good poem. It really describes how, like a family, bees work together and help each other. Good job Autumn!
ReplyDeleteBees do seem like a big happy family don't they? They're like a single loving organism. Your poem put that nicely, especially the last two lines.
